Cancer Research UK’s Brilliant Project-based Fundraising Example
The recent article posted by ThirdSector entitled Case Study: Cancer Research UK showcases the Cancer Research UK organization’s project-based fundraising success. Cancer Research UK’s MyProjects site first invites supporters to “Choose the cancer you want to beat” and then follows with a list of various projects that they can help fund.

Then you can choose to help support a very particular study being conducted by a particular professor. When you click a project you are presented with some great information that provides background and potential impact of the project. In addition, you can even create your own group where you can engage others to help you support the project as a team.

Please note that Minds on Design Lab and Giving Impact are not involved with Cancer Research UK or this project in any way. That being said, we are excited by what they are doing on a variety of different levels as we definitely are intrigued by donation 2.0 efforts in general as well as much of what MyProjects is doing is directly in line with why we have built Giving Impact with donation 2.0 and project-based giving in mind.
The article shares some really informative details.
- £200,000 to develop
- £400,000 raised so far
- 3000 Supporters with 65% of them being first timers
- Average donation size was higher than previous individual donors
Do you know of other NPOs doing similar project-based efforts? Please share them and we will be sure to do a follow-up post with additional examples and thoughts.
